Presentation, discussion, and small group work

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify key communication skills and how to apply these in practice.
  • Discuss potential barriers to good communication and ways to meet these.
  • Identify key end of life conversations.
  • Explore and develop strategies to manage challenging conversations with residents/patients/relatives/carers.
  • Develop skills in practice using a variety of conversation scenarios at end of life, for example talking about dying, advance care planning, and prognosis. 
  • Explore self-awareness and the impact on effective communication.
